Malaysia and Singapore are leading growth for eco-friendly laminates, says Saurabh Mittal, managing director, Greenlam Asia Pacifi Pte Ltd, a leading supplier of laminates for the interior design industry.

Its parent company, India-based Greenply Industries Ltd, was recently awarded the GreenLabel certification by the Singapore Environment Council (SEC), a first for an Indian company and the first in the world to have its entire product range of over 400 laminates SEC-certified.

It was also awarded the GRENNGUARD certification by the United States’ GREENGUARD Environment Institute in 2008.

Mittal, who was in Kuala Lumpur recently to meet with industry players, said he noted increased awareness among the locals towards the ecosystem.

He added: “As awareness of the environment grows among consumers, awareness of the detrimental effects of pollutants grows as well.

“Today, consumers are not only aware of the damage products may have on the environment but are also cautious about the origins and effects of the products they consume. “
